Note: "Jungle" and "Blue-Purple-Pink" are Indonesian, not Malaysian Batiks.

Bamboo Lap Desks
  • The natural fibers in the bamboo panels are gorgeous from the top, bottom and sides. We use blond bamboo with either wide or narrow slats. The one you receive will depend on the bamboo that I have in stock at the time of your order. Inquire if you have a preference.
  • The bamboo panels are NAUF (no-added-urea-formaldehyde adhesive) certified.
  • The lap desks are approximately 5 pounds (large) and 3 pounds (small). Because there are three layers of bamboo and no filler, this lap desk is heavier than the wood veneered lap desks we offer. Once it's on your lap however, the weight is comforting.
  • At this time bamboo desktops are more costly to produce than the veneered laminate from which the other desks are made. Hopefully you will agree that its unique beauty is worth the extra cost.
  • Your purchase of a bamboo lap top lap desk helps support sustainably produced products. The bamboo plant is considered rapidly renewable because when harvested sustainably the plant re-grows from the same root stalk, maturing in just a few years. By comparison, cherry, walnut and maple trees take decades to grow, are incapable of re-growing from the same plant, and can be harvested only once.
Your Batik Fabric
  • Each Malaysian Batik is a piece of artwork made by rural villagers.
  • Batiking is accomplished by stamping cotton with an original, intricate design using a metal grid composed of interlocking copper strips. The cloth is then wax stamped, dyed, and hand painted many times over. Alternately, the wash of color seen in some batiks is creating by placing salt on the fabric before painting and washing.
  • NOTE: This is the last of these batiks as the main Malaysian artist is retiring. This includes all but the jungle and blue/purple/pink batiks. Buy yourself a one-of-a-kind batik today.
