Lap of Luxury Lap Desks are hand made in Eugene, Oregon. I support reuse and recycle philosophies and so use recycled foam that is shredded for the stuffing. I use recycled fabrics at times for the lap desks that I make for local fairs.
Construction is a 16-step process from marking the fabric through nailing on the pencil ledge. Three saws, a router, lots of sandpaper, a nail gun, a sewing machine, some putty, a jig or two et voila! It’s a Lap Desk!
Most of the high quality cotton fabrics on the website are from Kona Bay Fabrics in Honolulu, Hawaii. Other fabrics are available! I can send you pictures or call me to have them described.
The desks are made of 1/2" laminate with maple veneer (standard), but other veneers may be available (inquire).
The soft cushion is made of high quality cotton fabric over 5 inches (large) or 3 inches (small) of real shredded foam (no Styrofoam or polyfil) for a long life. If the pillow flattens, just poke it with your fingers to fluff it back up and it will regain its former shape.
The cushion is firmly attached to the bottom with a wooden frame. The cushion will conform to your legs in whatever seating position that you choose.
The wooden pencil ledge in front keeps your plate, book, pen or papers from landing in your lap.
